The project involved the following components:

• Site assessment and planning: The project began with a thorough assessment of the existing cleaning facilities and an analysis of the hospital’s cleaning needs. This informed the planning phase, which involved the development of a detailed project plan and timeline.
• Renovation of the cleaning department: The existing cleaning department was renovated to modernize and upgrade its facilities. This involved the installation of new plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems, the replacement of worn or damaged fixtures, and the upgrading of the department’s infrastructure.
• Quality control: Base-Engineering, the construction firm responsible for the project, ensured that all materials and workmanship met the highest standards of quality. This involved regular quality control checks throughout the project to ensure that everything was up to code.
• Safety measures: The safety of the hospital’s staff, patients, and visitors was a top priority throughout the project. Base-Engineering implemented safety measures to prevent accidents and minimize disruptions to the hospital’s daily operations.

The Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development oversaw the project, and Base-Engineering was responsible for the construction and management of the project. The project was completed successfully, and the renovated level 2 cleaning department at Steve Biko Academic Hospital is expected to provide a more efficient and effective cleaning facility for hospital staff, enhancing the overall cleanliness and safety of the hospital.
